VCE Chemistry – Effective Use of the Data Book for Studying

VCAA has recently (April 2017) released a new copy of the databook that you will get in your end of year exam.

The databook can be considered to be your ‘bible’ in Chemistry as it contains a lot of information that will help you in your exams, SACs and revision.

Given that the databook contains so much valuable information, you need to ensure that you are familiar with not only what information is contained in there, but also how the information is set out.

In your exam, you do not want to be flicking your data book backwards and forwards trying to find information, that you need to answer a question. You will be wasting valuable time that would be best put to tackling the question in front of you.

My tip for you is simple; print out a copy of the data book and familiarise yourself with it. Annotate it with your notes/scribbles, and use that databook when you are doing practice questions/exams. The more you use your data book, the more familiar you become with it. The best students know how to use their data book effectively and efficiently, which will save them time in the exam.
