How To Best Get A Head Start On Year 12

It’s difficult to know what to do in the months leading up to Year 12. Do you go all out and begin reading textbooks, or do you completely ignore the impeding serious study, instead favouring rest and relaxation? Let’s explore some ways to prepare well for Year 12.

Read your books

Reading your books for any English subject you are undertaking is a must. In order to have these books fresh in your mind, it’s a great idea to read when you have more free time and ability to process lofty themes and difficult sections. Even if you suspect you will forget most of what you read if it’s too early, your mind will retain important parts, and your foreknowledge will prove handy later down the track.

Glance over study designs and overview documents

It’s good to have an idea of what’s coming in each of your subjects so you’re never surprised with difficult work all converging simultaneously. If you read over what’s to come in each subject, you can write out when all of your assessment tasks are and also work out what you’re working towards in exams. It’s also a good idea to look at study designs for each subject to keep your focus sharp.

Don’t study TOO much

There’s always a risk if you begin intense study too early: the risk of burnout. So while it’s the holidays, keep in mind that not only do you deserve rest, you actually need it to function at your best.

Studying smart in the holidays can very easily have a massive impact on the rest of your year. It’s up to you how you begin.
